Paddle Route: Lagoa da Conceição
Not every paddle is about catching a wave. Sometimes it's about finding a different rhythm. Field notes from the calm heart of Florianópolis's Ilha da Magia.
Florianópolis has dozens of beaches, each with its own energy. But for a different kind of water time, I often come back to the lagoon. Paddling on Lagoa da Conceição is a total reset.
Out on the open ocean, my attention is on the horizon—reading the sets, feeling the pull of the currents. Here, the focus shifts inward. The water is a calmer mirror, and the rhythm is all yours. It’s a steady, meditative stroke—less about power, more about glide.
You start to notice different things. The way the wind draws patterns on the surface. The sound of your paddle dipping, almost silent. The view of the island from its center, looking out at the green hills instead of in from the surf. It’s the same island, the same water, but a completely different conversation.
A good reminder that coastal life isn't just about the waves; it's about all the water in between.
